SE hosts FFXIV through NTT, not Comcast. Comcast isn't the issue, it's FFXIV's ISP, NTT. The reason a VPN worked is possibly because of pure coincidence of lag not being an issue (it's been pretty cyclical), because traffic still has to go through NTT to get to FFXIV's server, or somehow the VPN managed to route the traffic through different nodes?
